Our Story

Founded in 1879, Gresham United Methodist Church is one of the city’s

oldest congregations. Early members first gathered for worship in homes

and a nearby schoolhouse, then built their first sanctuary in 1881 — years

before Gresham was officially incorporated.

As the town grew, so did the church, moving and rebuilding over the years

while remaining a steady presence in the heart of the community. Through

more than 140 years of worship, service, and fellowship, the people of

Gresham UMC have sought to live out the Methodist vision of faith

expressed through love.

Today, at 620 NW 8th Street, we continue that tradition — rooted in God’s

grace, growing in friendship, and reaching out in compassion to our

neighbors.
